The first meeting of Balkan Universities Association was held on 11^st of September at Trakya University, Karaağaç Campus in Edirne.

The first meeting of Balkan Universities Association which consists of the membership of 36 Universities, 30 of them agreed to be a member by signing the protocol and 6 of them by electronic media, began with reading of the message of the President of Higher Education Council, Prof. Dr. Gökhan Çetinsaya. Then, Balkan Symphony Orchestra gave a concert. The concert attracted great attention of the participants. The Rector of Trakya University, Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük gave the opening speech. After the opening speech, the articles of the protocol for BUA were discussed and the Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük was elected the president of the association in unanimous vote till 31^st of December 2015. Besides, permanent secretariat of the association is decided to be carried out in the body of Trakya University. The Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Triantafyllos Albanis has been elected as the former president, till 2016 the Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Yener Yörükhas been elected the current president and the Rector of Sofia St. Kliment Ohridski University Prof. Dr. Ivan Ilchev has been elected the future president to the executive committee of the Association.  After the meeting, the Representatives of 31 Universities placed a plaque to the trees planted on behalf of their own Universities in the Memorial Forest of BUA. Then, the Representatives of the Universities signed the protocol of BUA in the old Senate Room.
