SECOND MEETING OF BALKAN UNIVERSITIES ASSOCIATION
After the first meeting of Balkan Universities Association which was founded with the participation of 36 universities upon the request of the Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük on September 11th, 2014, the Second Meeting of Balkan Universities Association was held on October 8th, 2015 at Complex of Sultan Bayezid II. Health Museum. BUA reached 57 members after the participation of the new members to the association this year.
The meeting of the Balkan Universities Association began with the message from the President of the Higher Education Council Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç. After the Concert of Balkan Symphonic Orchestra which is composed of Balkan music, the presentation of Balkan Universities Association was shown and the new member Universities were introduced.
The Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük gave the opening speech after the presentation, and in his speech he mentioned about the works of the Balkan Universities Association from the past to the present and its vision. He also emphasized that Complex of Sultan Bayezid II. Health Museum where the meeting was held was the first hospital in the world which was planned as a hospital in terms of architecture. He indicated that the knowledge and share spread over the Balkans by means of this historical place which is the most beautiful example of the bridge of past, present and future. Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük also informed the participants about E-bulletin of the BUA which goes on quarterly whose first two issues were published in digital and print. He also told that two pages are arranged for the news of each university which will contribute for strengthening and developing the communication. Then, as the president of the Balkan Universities Association, he suggested to organize Balkan Sports Games in May 2015, Edirne. He also indicated that related works for this planned event have been started by evaluating the capacities of the member universities via questionnaires sent to the participants before the meeting.
At the end of the speech, the new participants of the Balkan Universities Association meeting became a member to the Association by signing the protocol of the Association and were accepted by unanimously voting.
Furthermore, the election of presidency in Balkan Universities Association for the next two periods took place. The election was made by nomination of the member universities and Tetova State University from Macedonia and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from Greece asserted their candidacy. As a result, Tetova State University was elected as a president in 2017 and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for 2018 and it was unanimously accepted.
After the election, the presentation called “A Regional Cooperation Model: Balkan Libraries Union” by the head of Library and Documentation Department Recep Zogo was made.
After the presentation, flag delivery ceremony was made. The Rector of Trakya University and The President of 2015 Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük delivered the flag to the President of 2016 “St. Kliment Ohridski” University of Sofia.
After the Second Meeting of Balkan Universities Association, a family photo was taken with all the participants.
After the meeting, tree-planting ceremony was made for the 21 new members after a tour of all participants at the Memorial Forest of the Balkan Universities Association which is located at Old Train Station in Karaağaç.
The meeting of 2015 Balkan Universities Association lasted after the concert and Gala Dinner that is given by the Rector of Trakya University Prof. Dr. Yener Yörük at Old Train Station in Karaağaç.
